International Forum on Next Generation of IoT

Session 2: Next Generation IoT Architecture

13:00-14:40

Panel Discussion

The Internet has been transforming the world in almost every aspects for decades and a number of technological trends will drive the internet to continuously evolve over the next 10-15 years. Among the drivers, the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and applications are bringing fundamental changes to all sectors of activity and are therefore an essential element of the next generation Internet. Generic IoT systems consists of sensors that measure data and networks that transport the data, and the remote or cloud servers that store, manage and process the data. The processed data might trigger actuators to response. While this generally works, new applications in several vertical sectors such as industrial automation, energy, public safety, health care are demanding enhanced sensing/actuating, security, reasoning capabilities and computational power to the edges for shorter latency and improved QoS. In addition, new capabilities on both the edge and the cloud, such as artificial intelligence and semantic interoperability are also driving the evolution of next generation of IoT architecture to be more flexible, autonomous and robust. This panel discussion session features the trend of advanced IoT architecture, challenges and standards.

Please share your prospective for 10-15 minutes, then moderator will invite every panelist to discuss the suggested topics one by one.

Session 3: Next Generation IOT Applications (Telematics & AR/VR)

15:00-16:40

Panel Discussion

The IoT systems are being deployed in homes, enterprises, and cities across the globe to deliver a wide spectrum of smart applications. However, there are a couple of potential vertical applications, especially those demanding high system performance and deep eco-systems, which is just starting to boom. Among them, vehicle-to-everything (V2X) systems could potentially greatly enhance the transportation efficiency, reduce traffic jam, and improve road safety. The V2X technologies have been developed for years. The recently developed advanced 4G/5G communication infrastructure, smart sensing and ADAS systems, and the un-manned vehicles can further stimulate the V2X applications. Trial and test beds for modern V2X applications have been established in several countries. Industrial applications is another potential usage area for IoT. The initiatives of Industry 4.0 or the like require massive use of IoT for enhanced factories automation, process automation, logistics, flexibility and efficiency with lower cost and power consumption. AR/VR is another emerging IoT application area, which facilitates real time and immersive interaction between the physical and virtual world, and thus can provide unprecedented user experience. Use cases for AR/VR abound, ranging from consumer to enterprise uses.

This session will discuss about the emerging IoT applications, markets, eco-system status. Regulation and issues beyond the technologies will be also addressed. Please share your prospective for 10 minutes, then moderator will invite every panelist to discuss the suggested topics one by one.
