The award of the highest honor for Taiwan's events industry

Global rise in urbanization challenges drive the foundation of smart city development

According to statistics from the United Nations, by 2050 approximately 70% of the world will be urbanized. This creates major problems in various areas of our society, such as traffic, education, healthcare, public safety, and pollution, etc. “Smart city” is the concept based on finding methods to solving these urban problems through solutions provided by information and communications technologies (ICT).

As a result, the development of smart cities has become one of the most hotly discussed topics by cities from all over the world. Therefore, not only are ICT trends like the internet of things (IoT) the ‘next big thing’ according to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s founding Chairman, Morris Chang, and the most sought-after topic by industry professionals and experts, it is also one of the most imperative forces driving the formation of our smart cities.

TCA pulls together industry resources in shaping future smart cities

One of the key missions of the Taipei Computer Association is to help Taiwan take hold of the 1.5 trillion USD in worth of business opportunities, and to make Taiwan the primary supplier of Smart City services and products through hosting the Smart City Expo.

In organizing the Smart City Expo Taipei Computer Association (TCA) has managed to pull together the strengths of Taiwan’s ICT industry. On Sept 18th of 2014, the “smart city” themed expo had the honor of being awarded the Gold Medal in category B of the “2014 Taiwan MICE Award,” hosted by the Taiwanese Bureau of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Economic Affairs.

The Bureau of Foreign Trade wished to establish a benchmark for excellence, to strengthen the exhibition’s brand image, and to raise the overall competitiveness of our exhibition. Therefore, the Taiwan MICE Award was established, and has since become one of the most indicative industry exhibition awards in Taiwan. And this year, the Taipei Smart City Expo was acknowledged with first place for its significant contribution towards the development of Taipei City.
