Introduction
TIPC, a public enterprise under the Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC), is a national ports management organization. Subsidiary operations include Taiwan’s seven international commercial ports at Keelung, Taichung, Kaohsiung, Hualien, Taipei, Suao, and Anping. TIPC also has provisional authority over the country’s two domestic commercial ports at Budai and Penghu.
Focused on sustainable, market-oriented operations, TIPC manages its subsidiary ports within an overall “port group” framework, invests significant energy and resources into advancing core port businesses, and is actively engaged in diversifying its overall business model. In recent years, TIPC has extended its business interests into new areas including port services, logistics, land development, offshore wind energy, and overseas investment.
To meet the opportunities and challenges of advancing technology, TIPC created the 2030 Trans-SMART plan to incentivize the implementation and use of smart technologies and applications in port operations and to encourage the use of Taiwan’s commercial ports for field testing and refining related technological innovations. Plan items feed into TIPC’s ongoing effort to build and maintain international ports that are “safe, efficient, high-quality, and sustainable.”
